Get Started

What You Need

  • A WordPress site running the Draft2Publish plugin.
  • Your Google AI Studio API key (Gemini). Free only needs this single key for text + research + Nano Banana images.
  • A plan selection from Pricing (Free costs $0, upgrades unlock more sites/models).
  • WordPress admin access to paste the key and customize schedules.
Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) keeps per-article costs predictable. Free uses just one Gemini key, so there’s no billing mystery.

Step-by-step

  1. Install Draft2Publish from your WordPress admin: Plugins → Add New, search for Draft2Publish, and click Install. It is a free download from the WordPress plugin directory.
  2. Activate the plugin and open D2P → API Keys in WordPress.
  3. Paste your Gemini API key into the Gemini connector. Keep other providers empty for now.
  4. Visit D2P → Quick Generate to run your first manual article. Select “Gemini Nano Banana” image if you want an automatic featured image.
  5. Configure your schedule under D2P → Content Schedule: choose your publishing days and articles per day, set word count to 700, and define sources/topics.
  6. Save changes and watch the Activity Feed. Draft2Publish researches and posts directly into Gutenberg.
Free-first tip: Keep scope tight (one site, one topic collection) until the first post publishes. Then layer new categories or upgrade for more throughput.

Redeeming an AppSumo code

Bought Draft2Publish on AppSumo? Your code activates a lifetime license on one WordPress site. Here is the whole process, start to finish.

  1. Copy your code from your AppSumo account, under Products.
  2. Install Draft2Publish on your WordPress site. In wp-admin go to Plugins → Add New, search for Draft2Publish, then click Install and Activate. It is a free download from the WordPress plugin directory, your code unlocks the paid features.
  3. Open D2P → License, paste your AppSumo code into the license field, and click Activate. Your lifetime plan switches on straight away.
  4. Open D2P → API Keys and add a key from any supported provider. Draft2Publish is bring your own key, so you are billed by the provider at their rates with nothing added on top. A Google AI Studio key for Gemini is the cheapest place to start.
  5. Go to D2P → Quick Generate and run one article to confirm everything is connected.
  6. Set your ongoing schedule under D2P → Content Schedule.
Stacking codes. One code covers one WordPress site. Stack up to 5 codes for up to 5 sites. Each additional site is a separate install, so repeat steps 2 to 6 on that site using your next code. Do not paste two codes into the same site.
What your code does not cover. AI usage is billed by your provider, directly to you, at their published rates. We take no cut and add no markup. Most publishers spend a few cents per article.
Code will not activate? Check that you pasted it with no leading or trailing spaces, and that the site is not already running another Draft2Publish license. Still stuck, email [email protected] with your AppSumo order number and we will sort it.

Troubleshooting

  • API key error? Confirm the Gemini project has the Content + Image APIs enabled and the key is unrestricted.
  • No posts publishing? Check WordPress cron (Tools → Site Health) and make sure the schedule is saved with future timestamps.
